The
Ordophon-upon-Avon, once a studio with walls, is now just pretty much a name
for my services. I now work in a few different rooms, all currently at Hyde St.
Studios in San Francisco. I have a flight case with preamps, compressors, and a
Nuendo-based recording system. However, I work in all
formats available at Hyde St., including 2” analog. Basic pre-production, editing,
and overdubs can be done in my office/study, and all other “out of the box”
mixing and tracking take place in various rooms suited to your needs and
budget. I’m a musician as well as a meticulous engineer. I can understand
musical terms and ethereal descriptions, but can translate that to what the
knobs need to do along the way. I
can contract any studio musicians you might need.
My
current rate is $60/hr; 4 hr minimum for new projects. I recommend tracking a
full day in Hyde St. Studio A ($500/day use), then overdubbing in smaller
studios as needed. All-in project rates can be negotiated.
Looking
at my gear list, you'll see my hardware, a full assortment of
computer-based tools, plus the added convenience in San Francisco of in-house
access of Hyde Street Studio A and Studio D, with
a Wurlitzer model 400 electric piano, Hammond B3/Leslie, and a Yamaha C-3 6'
grand piano.
Lounges,
a kitchen, secure parking, and helpful interns make it all happen. Sure, there
are gold records on the wall, but who cares, come down and make your own!
I
will help you make your dreams come true. If that's impossible, then I'll play
all the parts for you, sing all the backup vocals, or help with the lyrics. Or
I'll just stay quiet and let you do your thing while I adjust the air
conditioning and mind the level meters. Client list
If
you bought Pro Tools, you aren’t going to the studio anymore, right? You have
some microphones, speakers, and now you have a “recording studio” at your
house, or practice space. But do your recordings sound professional? Sometimes
not.
Knowing
how to make a good sound takes years of experience and training. Why invest all
that time into a mediocre learning-curve recording when you could make a great
record in the same amount of time? You can still work in your space, but I’ll
help you get more out of it. With my help, you could track the basics in a great
room with the right gear, then take the tracks home for overdubbing.
Spent
your whole budget (and then some) on recording, and still need to make a
master? Affordable CD preparation and mastering is here. Song editing, sequencing
and spacing, fade in/out, EQ, and dynamics processing of your final mixes. I
have a complete computerized set up to give a viable alternative to high-priced
mastering studios. My typical mastering job can cost less than $200. More
details here.
